Hey Gen Z. It may be time for a career coach
I started my thursday morning reading a fascinating report by the Economist on the Gen Z consumer. They are woke, broke and complicated. The Economist says, " Businesses should take note of how they spend their money."
Perhaps every generation in the flush of its youth are perceived that way. But it cannot be denied that Gen Z has more pressures at work than perhaps any generation before. A combination of an overwhelming digital zeitgeist, uncertainty and choice has made their loves, especially work life especially complex.
When I first started working as a TV reporter, the editor-owner of the production house told me you need both talent and PR to succeed. His implication was though talented I lacked PR. I wish I had taken this to heart at that time as I ended up blowing up quite a few working relationships before I learned a hard lesson about PR at work.
This brings me to the point of this article. If we have access to career coaches at the start of our career, it can greatly help us to success in a manner that makes us happy and moves us on the path of realising our potential.
The bulk of our work is being with people, regardless of what job you have. Isn't it natural then to have the best guidance to manage ourselves, our teams and bosses and our personal happiness @work.
I would sincerely advise Generation Z to take on a coach as early as possible in your career. They can help you"
-
Discover your true path at work
-
Identify solutions to harmful work patterns-these patterns emerge early on . For me it was an inability to work for long at one place-boredom would set in. I only cracked this after some friendly coaching
-
Support you as you plan your career early on. Few will tell you this openly but it's hard to recover from bad foundation career years. I know of only one person in 30 years of work who has done this, a very famous right wing TV anchor ( who will stay unnamed) who was fired from the first job )
Do invest in yourself by hiring a coach, its woke to do so.
