All about working with a coach

A professional coach is not a mental health doctor. Yet a coach enables people for a mental breakthrough.

The pandemic has further strengthened the value of coaching as a support to individuals to lead healthier lives.

An International Coaching Federation (ICF) coach is ethically bound to refer the client to other helping professionals like therapist, support groups etc. if they feel the duration, frequency, and intensity of symptoms is beyond their professional competencies.

Mental health for any human being operates on a spectrum. If the coach feels that the client is unable to function properly in daily activities, either professionally or personally, it is an indication to make a referral to other support professionals.

Here are top 3 reasons why I go to a coach for wellbeing.

Proactive approach

A coach refrains from giving any advice and provides a space where I am able to express myself fully.

As I am asked powerful and pertinent questions, my emotions, thoughts, doubts and beliefs, which I cannot share with my colleagues, find their way out and the coach helps me to navigate them.

Once things are off my chest, I am able to proactively plan and take steps to achieve my goals in the context of the organization using my strengths.

Discuss the burning agenda

The coach’s main purpose is to partner in a thought provoking session to meet client’s agenda and help them lead more fulfilling lives.

Coaching primarily focuses on the present and moving toward the future, yet, many a times I find myself stuck due to issues, limiting thought processes or unexpressed feelings from the past.

With open conversations, I am able to explore and discuss what I am thinking and feeling in relation to the top most agenda in my mind. Doing so, allows me to bring my whole being into action to deliver on my objectives making it a win-win for me and the whole team.

Based on continued research

The competencies and methodologies adopted by coaches are based on neuroscience, theory of mind and other related behavioral science disciplines with over 25 years of proven impact.

The profession continues to keep itself abreast with the latest developments, both from a scientific and a practical point of view to equip itself with tools so that the results of coaching are more robust.

I benefitted in building my business addressing limiting beliefs, issues and feelings which knowingly or unknowingly I was avoiding to deal with.

Over the last two years I have regularly worked with different coaches and it has helped me both personally and professionally. If you are interested in experiencing coaching for you or your teammates, reach out to ‘CoachUps’ team.
