3 reasons why Millennials and Gen Z like coaching
Coaching is a proven profession which enables people to accomplish goals as well as live fulfilled lives. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires a person to maximize their personal and professional potential.
While coaching is for everyone, different formative experiences (such as world events and technological, economic and social shifts) have allowed the recent generations to easily embrace professional coaching to better their lives.
Emphasis on Self Care - “In the case of a change in cabin pressure, be sure to place the resulting oxygen mask over your own face first before assisting anyone else.”
One often hears a similar statement being made as the flight gets ready for taking off.
The Millennials and Gen Z, have grown up hearing and imbibing this statement in their lives by living a life of self care. Anyone born between 1981 and 1996 is considered a Millennial, and anyone born from 1997 onward is part of a new generation.
The adult of today is more aware and is willing to invest in self care and development.
Shunning the taboo - The people of today share their lives all over the internet and social media. This includes their choices of travel, shopping, lifestyle and the like.
Hide it and conceal it was the mantra of earlier times when it came to expressing emotions, especially if they were considered limiting or a weakness by the society.
Even though, talking about one’s mental health is still considered a taboo in many places, more and more people including some celebrities have come forward to share openly their struggles and challenges of the mind.
Receiving this encouragement, the youth of today is finding courage to express more freely as can be seen in many a conversation with the themes of Depression, Anxiety, Diversity & Inclusion, etc.
Need to simplify life: The world of today is filled with multitude of options. Right from the time a baby is born, there are choices available for shopping, education, job opportunities etc. Rapid technology advancement has brought the focus of developing skill sets at an even faster pace which will allow people to embrace change quickly.
The recent pandemic forced the world to take a pause and reflect on the pace of life. It has highlighted the need to make conscious choices to lead a simpler life.
The need is then to hear one’s own voice with clarity while drowning the other noises and clutter around.
Professional coaching is a powerful tool which helps people to listen to themselves, work with their own values and strengths and achieve their objectives while taking care of mental health at the same time.
