Bounce back quickly from Denial; Disbelief; Victimisation, Anger

This can’t be happening. I was doing so well. Maybe it’s because of the Pandemic. Or on second thoughts, it could be Arindam (someone else) who is to blame. Denial; Disbelief; Victimisation and then Anger. These are natural emotional phases that one goes through when confronted with a difficult situation. In the weeks and months that follow a bad appraisal, all of these beasts rear their ugly head.

Bounce back fast: Tip #1 is don’t let the weeks become months. Yes, of course, I am human. I hate that I did not get what I felt was my due. It hurts to see my peers move up the ladder. So, my pain and anger are real, but the smart thing to do is to stop smarting from the appraisal that did not go my way and get into the zone of acceptance. This is happening to me, whether it’s fair or unfair is not the point. Getting to the point where you have accepted your reality, is the turning point. Acceptance is such a powerful place that allows much to change. It brings with it awareness about your situation and the options in front of you.

Take that first step: Tip#2 What am I going to do about it? Is the question to ask yourself. What is one small thing that I can do that will help me move forward? What can I do that will help me better understand what happened in my appraisal? What would I do differently of I could redo my appraisal discussion? What have I learnt from this experience that will help me move forward?

Growth is a journey inwards: Tip#3 Find alignment between your ‘Being and Doing’. Success is not about winning a 100-meter dash, it’s about running and enjoying running. It’s a marathon that gives you a runner’s high. The minute you finish one you are looking for the next opportunity. Not just to win, but to run. How do I get the growth that I want and deserve? Simply by finding answers to three key questions. What are my core values? What is my core life purpose? What are my natural talents and strengths?

If this is something that interests you, find yourself a good Coach and get going on that journey inwards. It will take you places.
