We want to be remembered. What is your legacy in 2024?
What makes coaching such an important part of my life? There are two parts to this. Me the coach and me being coached.
When I am being coached, I am deepening my self-awareness and creating and allowing the space and time for the true me to emerge.
I am trying to remember who I am and live my life in alignment with the core self that I was meant to be.
When I am coaching others, while I do my best to hold space for them to see their brilliance and offer all the benefits that coaching unlocks, there is a bonus that I receive. I realise that I am doing my best to be remembered. I am trying to answer the question “Does what I do matter?” “Will I be forgotten?”
Questions that knock on all our doors from time to time. Possibly one that far smarter people than me have tried to find an answer to. I am lucky because I have found my meaning in life. Coaching is a big part of my answer. Being coached and being a coach, feels like someone is giving me an encouraging hug and brings a smile to my face.
I know how much I remember all the coaches who have supported me on my journey. Not a week goes by when in some way I say a silent "thank you" to them or just remember them fondly.
Every time I get back on the tennis court after a bit of a break, I say a quiet thank you to my coach who got me onto the court. She is no longer with us in this world, but she lives on in me, on the court, and in many other places that she took me.
I want to be remembered by my clients the way I remember her and other coaches who helped me navigate this journey called life.
Coaching opens the doors to many worlds unexplored. It also helps shut a few doors to enable me to move forward. For me this week is about remembering who I am and
being remembered. Coaching is the gift that keeps on giving. Writing this article helps me to remember why I love coaching so much!
A new year beckons. It's a wonderful time to give yourself the gift of a coaching session. Remember what is truly important to you, or get in touch with something you had forgotten. How do you want to be remembered? Is a wonderful question to ask yourself and a great way to start a new year.
The CoachUps team, Paarul, Sunny and I wish you a wonderful year ahead.
