Coach Marie Quigley on the power of being present
Coaching requires being present for a client but before that, a coach must learn how to trust the uncertain. Marie Quigley, director & co-founder of Empower World and an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) shares her AHA moment as a coach when she realised this.
"My Aha was not a moment. It was a gentle evolution of the practice. A practice of getting to know myself and doing my own work in order to hold the sacred space for my clients to do their own work.
Presence is the key. The goal, the topic, the outcome: they are all secondary to our presence when we are with ourselves or another human being. When I am in presence, my mind does not search for any questions or solutions, the knowledge emerges from within, from my body’s inner knowing. And so, the wisdom of ourselves unfolds as we sit together in presence, in peace, in silence, in a childlike state of curiosity. It takes courage and vulnerability for a coach to sit in the place of not knowing and trust that what emerges for the client is what is most important."
